The Loons Cottage is situated in a peaceful location overlooking one of the best RSPB bird reserves in the UK, "The Loons"
Tucked
away in a tranquil corner of Neolithic Orkney, Loons Cottage is surrounded by
peaceful green fields, beautiful views, and is situated on the edge of Orkney's
largest area of wetland, RSPB Loons.
From
the comfort of the cottage you will experience spectacular views. Opening
the patio door allows opportunities to dine, relax, observe and listen to the
many native birds on the reserve. There is an abundance of nature on your
doorstep with cows and calves grazing in the fields.
A
short walk takes you to the RSPB bird hide and listening wall, and it is a 1.5
mile walk/drive to Marwick Shore and Marwick Head another RSPB reserve, where
there is an abundance of nesting and breeding birds on the cliff edges.
Marwick Head is also the site of Kitchener’s Memorial, a local landmark
erected to mark the WWII sinking of HMS Hampshire.
With
so much nature and history on its doorstep, the Loons cottage is an ideal base
for walking, cycling, fishing or simply relaxing at this tranquil location.
